Weddings

Congratulations on your engagement!

If you are thinking you would like to be married here in St. Nicholas Church then we would be delighted to welcome you and help you arrange this part of the most important day of your lives together.

One of the first things to check is whether you are legally entitled to be married in this parish as by English law a couple is not entitled to be married in any church of their choosing.

There are what are called qualifying connections and these are as follows:

  • One of you was baptised or prepared for confirmation here

  • One of you does or has lived in the parish for 6 months or more

  • One of your parents has lived in the parish for 6 months or more in their child’s lifetime.

  • One of your parents has regularly attended public worship here for at least 6 months during their child’s lifetime

  • Your parents or grandparents were married in this church

  • One of you does or has regularly attended public worship in this church for the past 6 months or more

You do not have to have been baptised yourselves in order to be married in St. Nicholas Church.

If you are unsure as to whether or not you qualify to be married here then please ask and we will be very happy to help.

If either of you has been married previously and are now legally divorced (have a Decree Absolute) then you are usually able to be married here.

Please contact either Gail at the Church Office on Bow Street (01287 632131) or the Rector, Revd. Alison Phillipson (01287 632588) if you would like to ask any questions or you would like to make an appointment in order to book a date.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
